Reactor Physics

We are seeking a Nuclear Engineer, Reactor Physics who will be responsible for performing reactor physics analyses of the nuclear reactor power systems in development at Nano Nuclear Energy, Inc.

The Nuclear Engineer will support core design enhancement, integrate customer and regulatory requirements into the reactor core design, and perform analysis and prepare documentation to support licensing of the reactor systems.

Full Time

Salary: $120,000 – $160,000

Nuclear Engineer – Reactor Physics

Responsibilities:

  • Perform neutron and gamma radiation transport calculations to determine activation/dose rates, heating, and material damage effects, and establish radiation shielding requirements.
  • Design radiation shielding throughout the reactor system.
  • Perform criticality safety calculations.
  • Develop, verify, and validate computational tools for reactor multiphysics analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations & maintenance, safety analysis, and licensing teams.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior team members.
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear regulations, licensing requirements, and company safety policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years (or M.Sc. and 5+ years) of relevant experience.
  • Strong Monte Carlo skills and strong understanding of reactor physics. Experience in reactor design, radiation shielding, and criticality safety desirable.
  • Strong programming skills in any language; Python is commonly used in this position.
  • Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills.
  • Nuclear software verification and validation experience is a plus.

Salary Information:

The estimated base salary range for this position is $120,000 to $160,000 at the time of posting.

  • Represent the company at conferences, industry events, and technical forums as needed.
  • Maintain version control and quality standards for nuclear technical content used in external submissions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Foundational knowledge of nuclear power systems and nuclear fuel cycle activities.
  • Understanding of practical engineering principles, including systems, techniques, procedures, and equipment applied to complex technical projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to produce clear, structured technical writing (academic, research-based, or professional).
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical information and tailor messaging to different audiences.
  • Experience working with technical teams, engineering projects, or data-driven analyses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–5 years of experience in nuclear energy, government programs, national laboratories, defense contracting, or other regulated technical industries.
  • MA/MS degree (engineering preferred but not required).
  • Familiarity with U.S. nuclear regulatory frameworks, policy processes, or government procurement.
  • Experience preparing technical documentation, reports, or presentations for external review.

  • This position is full-time and on-site in our New York office.

Quality Assurance Engineer

We are looking for a detail-oriented Quality Assurance Engineer to assist in the development and implementation of the Nano Nuclear Energy quality assurance program as we move toward initial construction of our Kronos MMR.

This position is located at our facility in Oak Brook, Illinois, reporting to the Director of Quality Assurance. You’ll work independently with limited supervision, applying your knowledge to projects and processes. Quality Assurance Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Quality oversight to ensure work is performed in strict accordance with requirements of the quality assurance program.
  • Supports supplier qualification and verification activities through performance of audits and surveillance activities.
  • Assists technical staff with the creation of quality plans and acceptance criteria lists, and inspection plans.
  • Promote Continuous Improvement and the timely reporting of all conditions that affect Quality.
  • Collaborate with the project team to implement quality improvements and perform causal analysis investigations on project-related issues.
  • Lead and mentor personnel to ensure the correct behaviors are developed and reinforced.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health program requirements.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Quality standards such as ISO 9001, ASME NQA-1, and ASME III.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate critical thinking.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever-changing needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NQA-1 Lead Auditor Certification.
  • Experience with Software QA in accordance with NQA-1-2022, Part II, Subpart 2.7.
  • Experience with commercial grade dedication.
  • Previous certification in non-destructive examination.
  • Knowledge of CSA N286/N299 Standards.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • 5 years of experience in quality assurance, with 2 years nuclear quality experience in a Department of Energy (DOE), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), or similar environment.

Special Requirements

  • This position requires access to safety related material and facilities. As such, passing a background check and a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program is required.
  • This position may require access to radiologically controlled areas. Ability to meet all safety requirements is mandatory.
  • Business travel to support supplier surveys and/or company audits.
